New Organic Light Emitting Diodes Low Cost

Scientists from the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences have developed a stacked organic light-emitting diode with low manufacturing cost and high luminous efficiency. The research results were published in a new issue of the American Journal of Applied Physics.

Light-emitting diodes are a kind of semiconductor diodes, which can convert electrical energy into light energy, and have been widely used in daily life. Compared with incandescent lamps, light-emitting diodes have the characteristics of small operating voltage and current, good shock resistance and long life. However, light-emitting diodes are generally made of inorganic semiconductor materials such as gallium, arsenic, phosphorus, etc., and the process is complicated and the cost is high. In addition, ordinary inorganic light-emitting diodes are point light sources, which are difficult to apply to large-area and high-resolution components, and cannot be made very thin.

A research team led by researcher Ma Dongge from the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, made organic light-emitting diodes from carbon-based organic materials similar to plastics. The processing is relatively simple and the cost is low, and this organic light-emitting diode is A surface light source with a large light source area.

The experimental results also show that this organic light-emitting diode can achieve high efficiency with only a single light-emitting layer, instead of multiple complex light-emitting layers; by connecting unit organic light-emitting diodes in series, higher working efficiency can be achieved.

In an interview with Xinhua News Agency on the 14th, Ma Dongge said that the organic light-emitting diodes they developed have obvious advantages in terms of cost and light-emitting mode, and have good application prospects in lighting, display backlights and other fields.
